As New York Fashion Week winds down, American fashion designer Ralph Lauren sought inspiration from the East combining Art Deco with Chinese motifs. And Calvin Klein's creative director Francisco Costa presented a minimalist collection.
Without a Polo shirt or tweed blazer in sight, the Fall 2011 Ralph Lauren runway painted a seductive picture in mostly black boutique clothing in sumptuous fabrics such as silk and velvet.
A long black cheongsam, the traditional Chinese elegant dresses, turned flirtatious with an exposed back covered in black lace.
Art Deco-inspired accessories set an elegant tone. Pops of red -- the color of joy in China -- and emerald green showed up in earrings, necklaces and belts.
The models marched down the runway under the soundtrack "China Girl" and in a departure from the usual runway model casting of just one or two Asian models, Ralph Lauren won notice from the fashion press for using more than a handful.
